Ambient

I recently read about ambient media or ambient advertising. To me the word ambient is like background noise so I guess ambient advertising is like background ads? After looking up more information about it on wikipedia I learned that the phrase 1st appeared in the British media not that long ago but has since then became a established term in the advertising industry. Ambient advertising refers to any kind of advertising that occurs outside of the home and is apart of a non standard medium. Examples are like those crazy ads in the urinals, creative handles on the side of shopping bags and even huge projections on sides of buildings.

I really like ambient advertising because it is so unexpected, creative, innovative and most of all memorable. I guess for an ad to qualify as an ambient ad it needs to be apart of the background and alot of the time it speaks to certain human truths.

According to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambient_media
The key to a successful ambient media campaign is to choose the best media format available and combined with effective message.......pretty much like every other campaign.

Ambient media or advertising has scene a lot of growth over the past couple of years mostly due to the decline of traditional media, media fragmentation and its ability to target a specific audience. Ambient ads goals are to push the brands message to the top of mind and the target audiences to have a better recall of the brand.

The good thing about ambient ads is it can create a lot of buzz and a lot of attention. It can interact with consumers on there normal daily routines hopefully with out bombardment. Ambient advertising can also be alot of fun!
