yes this is a GORILLA! |
Guerilla marketing relies on creativity and imagination rather than a big budget. One can do guerilla marketing that costs next to nothing! The campaigns are always unexpected and unique and usually in a place that you wouldent ever guess. The main objective of Guerilla marketing is to generate that buzz. The buzz is the most important thing because it will get people talking and then spread and in todays world most likely turn viral.
The term Guerilla marketing was coined by Jay Conrad Levinson in his book Guerrilla Marketing. The term as been very popular ever sense.
Levinson identifies the following principles as the foundation of guerrilla marketing:
- Guerrilla Marketing is specifically geared for the small business and entrepreneur.
- It should be based on human psychology rather than experience, judgement, and guesswork.
- Instead of money, the primary investments of marketing should be time, energy, and imagination.
- The primary statistic to measure your business is the amount of profits, not sales.
- The marketer should also concentrate on how many new relationships are made each month.
- Create a standard of excellence with an acute focus instead of trying to diversify by offering too many diverse products and services.
- Instead of concentrating on getting new customers, aim for more referrals, more transactions with existing customers, and larger transactions.
- Forget about the competition and concentrate more on cooperating with other businesses.
- Guerrilla marketers should use a combination of marketing methods for a campaign.
- Use current technology as a tool to build your business.
- Messages are aimed at individuals or small groups, the smaller the better.
- Focuses on gaining the consent of the individual to send them more information rather than trying to make the sale.

A Guerilla Marketing promo that I remember most dealt with the Adult Swim show Aqua Teen Hunger Force. In the show there are these creatures called mooninites. In 2007 several light bright displays with the outlines of the mooninites were placed around Boston and people mistook them for bombs!!! They were placed around subway stations and other transit areas. Bomb squads were called in to "disable" the devices. I couldent believe that it was real because the light bright showed a mooninite with his middle finger up!
"We do whatever we want, to whomever we want, at all times. Moonitines Unite! Lock in!" |
I mean it did get promotion for the movie that was coming out but im sure Adult Swim did get into trouble.
